Reading Challenges for 2011

  1. Busy Bookworm Challenge 2011
  2. The Vampire Chronicles Challenge 2011
  3. Historical Fiction Challenge 2011
  4. Haruki Murakami Reading Challenge 2011
  5. Full Steampunk Ahead Challenge
  6. 2011 Robert Bolaño Reading Challenge
  7. 2011 E-book Challenge
  8. Vampire Challenge 2011

I know it’s already March and I’m two months late. I only have 10 months to fullfill these challenges. Since I just publicized this blog (which I’ve hidden for so long), I’ll be using it to do what I have been wanting to do since the beginning of time – to accept reading challenges.

So the first challenge is the Busy Bookworm Challenge 2011 from Busy Bookworm Review (via www.busybookwormreviews.com)

The challenge: Read 12-24 books I’ve been wanting to read.

And that’s where the second challenge comes in: The Vampire Chronicles Challenge 2011 by Book Chic City (via www.bookchickcity.com)

The challenge: Read all 10 books from The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice which are as follows:

  1. Interview with the Vampire (currently reading)
  2. The Vampire Lestat
  3. The Queen of the Damned
  4. The Tale of the Body Thief
  5. Memnoch the Devil
  6. The Vampire Armand
  7. Merrick
  8. Blood and Gold
  9. Blackwood Farm
  10. Blood Canticle

Since that is only 10, I accepted another challenge which is the Historical Fiction Challenge 2011 (via historicaltapestry.blogspot.com)

The challenge spans different levels:

  1. Severe Bookaholism: 20 books
  2. Undoubtedly Obsessed: 15 books
  3. Struggling the Addiction: 10 books
  4. Daring & Curious: 5 books
  5. Out of My Comfort Zone: 2 books

Since I already have the Vampire Chronicles, I’d choose the Out of My Comfort Zone level.

The first historical fiction book I would read is the Across The Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn, the first book of the Tales of the Otori Trilogy, by which I already have finished reading the 2nd and the last book.

The second book… I’m still on the process of thinking which one. (Suggestions?)

The next challenge: the Haruki Murakami Reading Challenge 2011

Since I always see books from Murakami, I’ve always been wanting to know what his works are like.

The levels available on this challenge are:

  1. Hajime – Read one book
  2. Sheep Man – Read 3 books
  3. Toru – Read 5 books
  4. Nakata – Read 7 books
  5. Sumire – Read 10+ books
  6. Super-frog – Read everything Murakami has written!

And I’ll be on the Hajime~ I’m still searching which book to read. (Suggestions?)

The second to the last challenge: the Full Steampunk Ahead Challenge by Book ♥ Soulmates (via booksoulmates.blogspot.com)

The challenge: Read atleast 10 Steampunk books this year. I’m not sure if this is possible as I already have many books on the line but I also want to try reading books based from the victorian mechanical era. (Panic! At The Disco recently brought this fashion to limelight via their new music video The Ballad of Mona Lisa) I’m going to choose from the list here.

And lastly, the 2011 Robert Bolaño Reading Challenge.

Levels include:

  1. Mesmerist: 1 book read
  2. Critic: 3 books read
  3. Vagabond: 5 books read
  4. Poet: 7 books read
  5. Detective: 10 books read
  6. Godzilla: 13 or more books read
  7. Worm: 2 books published in 2011 read

And I’ll be on the Mesmerist level. Still on the process of deciding which book.

That’s it! May nature finds its way for me to accomplish these challenges this year.

At the end of the year, I’ll be looking back at this post and I’ll be posting reviews on the process.
